Fun Things to do in Kansas City with Kids

4 Places for Family Fun Without Breaking the Bank

Family / February 5, 2021

If you’re relocating to Kansas City, finding activities for the entire family is important to help everyone become acclimated to the area. You may adhere to a stricter budget (we all know how expensive moving can be), but that doesn’t mean there aren’t tons of activities everyone can enjoy.

Cornerstone Banks loves everything the Kansas City area has to offer, and as locals ourselves, we know how to have fun without overspending. Below are just a few fun things to do in Kansas City with kids.

1. The Kansas City Zoo

The Kansas City Zoo features over 1,000 animals from around the world, so you and the family can find species derived almost anywhere. With animal shows, restaurants, and tram rides, the kids are sure to have a good time. The award-winning, 200-acre facility has a little something for everyone—no matter what age.

Bonus: Anyone who lives in Jackson or Clay County only pays $8 to $9 for tickets! If you’re outside of those areas, general admission still costs less than $20, and children under 2 get in for free. Before you go, make sure you reserve an entry time!

2. Starlight Theatre

Starlight Theatre is the largest and oldest performing arts organization of its kind in Kansas City and the second largest in America. Dedicated to bringing the art of theater, Starlight showcases performances for all ages.

The outdoor theater isn’t just for summer broadway shows and concerts. They have an entire indoor series during the winter months; so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the show all year round.

3. Arabia Steamboat Museum

The Arabia Steamboat Museum showcases over 200 tons of cargo from Steamboat Arabia, which sank in the Missouri River on September 5, 1856. During your visit, you can roam through the collection of clothing, fine china, tools, guns, dishes, and much, much more. It’s a blast from the past your entire family can enjoy that won’t cost you hundreds per visit.

4. Leawood City Park

Spending time outdoors can help bring your family together and keep them active and healthy. Leawood City Park, a massive 66-acre area, comes with 11 soccer fields, six tennis courts, three basketball goals, two baseball fields, two sand volleyball courts, and a jogging trail. It’s truly perfect for any sports lovers out there! There’s even a dog park so your family dog can enjoy the fun, too. The aquatic center opens in the summer, giving your kids a great place to swim and splash around.

Before you go… find the right bank

Whenever you move from city to city, you want to make sure your finances are in order before you partake in different activities, especially ones that cost money. This includes notifying your current bank about the move so it doesn’t flag your account for spending money in a strange place. If you’re searching for a new bank, choosing a local bank in Kansas City can help you manage your finances and discover personal insight into the area.
